I spent 40 years of my life in West Texas and agree with much of what I heard from Deece today. The other thing that I would add, though, and my first thought in seeing the question: Tim Dunn’s ability to control the politics of the state should not go unmentioned.
Democratic governments reflect their populace. The flaws of our elected leaders are our own, perhaps not individually but collectively. They are the things we are willing to forgive, to look away from rather than confront. They slip through the cracks in our attention because it is somebody else’s problem.
