I generally agree with the drift of this discussion re land acknowledgement in the US, however I think in Australia it can be either performative or meaningful depending on the person delivering it. We have both a 'welcome to' and 'an acknowledgement of' country.
The acknowledgement says - I acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land and pay my respects to the elders, past present and emerging. Generally the nation is named, when known - the gadigal people of Sydney for example.
