Ben’s points about a Democratic House having oversight powers are correct. With oversight powers, House Democrats will investigate and hold hearings that put significant pressure on the administration. They will be able focus on exposing administration misconduct at all levels. The corruption and abuse of the law will stay in the headlines. Aggressive oversight can weaken the administration.

Appropriations will be part of this, and certainly Democratic control of appropriations in the House can stop the bad funding bills. Although I expect that full-year continuing resolutions (and/or extended shutdowns) may become the norm, which will limit how much Democrats can achieve through the appropriations process.

So let’s do everything possible to flip the House.
