Oh the programs of partnership, steady and wise,
where neighbors stay neighbors—not marketed lies!
Where help overseas meant our hometowns stayed fed,
and farmers sold harvest—with bills paid ahead.
For when USAID bought food—grain, beans in a row,
it wasn’t “just charity”… it helped commerce flow.
A bridge made of purchases, practical, plain—
then cuts hit the bridge and the markets felt pain.
Now soybeans sit watching the docks and the deals,
while politics clanks like a tractor with squeals.
Trade twists and aid freezes—contracts don’t arrive—
and rural-town budgets don’t magically thrive.
And up on the screen-world, where thumbs do the stroll,
come whispers and whooshes that tug at the soul—
bots and hot anger, “us-versus-them” grime,
where rumors grow fangs in the comment-section slime.
Some tycoons preach stories—apocalypse-spark,
name-calling and fear-talk that drags faith through the dark;
and Pope talk gets twisted to fuel a new fight,
so neighbors stay mad and don’t unite for what’s right.
Meanwhile power says, “Move!” with a bulldozer grin—
“Checks and balances? Grandma, we’re cutting them thin!”
And allies who stood with our troops long ago,
get shoved to the side in a cold, costly show.
But we grandparents remember—August ’35,
when rules said: “Protect folks—help working folks thrive.”
Not “everybody fend for themselves in the rain,”
but “build up the basics” so freedom can stand.
So hear us, loud loud, from the porch and the pew:
We’re not letting hate-bait decide what is true.
We’ll lift up our values—community, care—
and shine facts like lanterns through engineered scare.
We’ll back honest journalism, comment and share,
we’ll teach the young ones: “Spot grift in the air!”
For democracy’s muscle is people who see,
and people who vote like their neighbors are “we.” 🗳️💪🇺🇸
